When Fall Meets Winter

A couple of weeks ago we had some frost filled mornings.
Then it snowed.
At the time, a lot of the trees and shrubs hadn't lost their leaves yet.
Now, two weeks later, most tress have since lost their leaves and the snow has long ago melted.
But this is what things looked like when fall met winter.

Within days after Halloween the snow fell.
Covering our poor little jack-o-lanterns.

Bubbly

taken:
day eighty eight
09.16.2013

We had frost this morning. Yes, frost! But good thing it was a light frost and all of my plants and flowers are still alive. By the time I was able to walk through the yard the frost was thawing and dripping. The melted frost clung to this foxtail plume like soft little bubbles while reflecting light from the morning sunshine. Bubbly bokeh, I love it!

Welcome March

Welcome March!
Things have been a bit gray around here.
It's the time of year when things start looking a little dingy.

But there is always hope that spring will soon arrive.
Bringing some bright color along with it.

The other morning winter had sprinkled everything with an
extra beautiful layer of frost.
Frost ALWAYS brightens up the dullness of winter!

I heard yesterday that meteorologists consider March 1st the first day of spring.
Too bad that early March, here in MN, only reveals itty bitty pieces of spring.

No matter how small though, it feels so refreshing
to have above freezing temps and some melting snow.

And you know that with the melting snow also comes baby buds
that will soon be bursting forth with new life.

Meteorology speaking...HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SPRING!

Winter Solstice {Hope Renewed}

Yay, it's the winter solstice! The shortest day.
And I'm excited why?
Because after today the days grow longer,
 the sun gets stronger,
the brightness rises higher.
Hope is renewed.
Because, after all...

Winter can bend you. Leaving you weary, making you long for warmth and sunshine.

Winter can feel confining, dreary, looonnnggg.

But it can also feel reviving, cozy, serene.

"Winter is the time for comfort,
for good food and warmth,
for the touch of a friendly hand and
for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home."
~Edith Sitwell

Wishing you all a winter full of cozy evenings, increasingly sunny afternoons and hope through the bitter cold!
For you know, the bitterness can't last forever. In winter, spring is always around the corner.

Hello Monday!

Hello feeling refreshed after some alone time over the weekend.

Hello feeling caught up after some serious organizing.

Hello starting our week with no school for the boys for 2 days.

Hello passing our time with a movie at the theater, arts & crafts and lots of playtime.

Hello confusing MN winter weather, one moment it's bitter cold, the next it's snowing the next it's sunny and melting away.

These photos were taken last winter on a little family ice fishing getaway at my in-laws cabin.
The frost was covering all the front porch windows. It was so pretty!
